The championship was decided until the last lap. The last lap was the decisive one of the 58 laps. Worthy closure for this magnificent season with Max Verstappen being world champion for the first time. What a season we lived.
The two leaders came with the same points to this last race and had to risk everything. Max started this weekend on the right foot, taking pole position thanks to teamwork with Perez, followed by Hamilton not by much and Lando completing the top three by making a great time and showing that he is still there.
Hamilton had a perfect start and managed to take advantage of Verstappen who, no matter how hard he tried, did not had the car to catch the British and all he could do was push and resist. I’m not going to lie to you, I was afraid that it would turn into a boring race with Lewis far ahead of the others, but as always, this season surprised us and things started to change. The phenomenal defense from Checo to Hamilton revived the race and the possibility that Max could win, it was fantastic and the teamwork of the Bulls is unmatched. Red Bull’s strategies worked and were smarter than those of Mercedes and the safety car caused by Latifi was what gave the last push for Verstappen to have the chance to win.
The excitement ahead made us forget a bit about what was going on in the back. Sainz completed the podium having a great race and great season finale with a 5th place, behind him were the Alpha Tauri, Yuki Tsunoda surprised pleasantly (hopefully see better next year). Bottas behind, followed by Norris, the Alpines and Leclerc completing the top 10. Eventually Mercedes took the constructors' championship, Red Bull P2, Ferrari took the third place from Mclaren at the end of the season and Alpine was the team that completed the top 5.
We had the last race of Kimi and Giovinnazzi (who sadly could not finish) in F1, last race of Bottas with Mercedes and George with Williams.
Sad that this beautiful season has ended, but happy to have lived it and have had this end. There are so many ways to describe it that I don’t even know how to start. Exciting, full of surprises, incredible overtakes, polemics, controversies, we had everything, just fantastic. A great way to close this era of cars, with a rivalry that was missed and needed in the sport after so many years of dominance. Despite the bad decisions the FIA made repeatedly, you can’t deny that this season was a gift to the sport.
